Alligator Alley: Toll Increase
While Alligator Alley has been previously unable to obtain bidders to lease the road, there may still be a toll increase without new management. The law requires tolls to be raised to keep in line with inflation every 1-5 years. In 2008, there was a proposal to increase the rate for $2.50 to $3.75 but the proposal was not passed. The fees went up in 2006 from $1.50 to $2.50 for cash-paying drivers, causing an increase to keep up with inflation by 2012. 22,000 vehicles travel the road per day, generating good revenue for Collier County.
